Peter Goodwin has over 40 years in practice as a lawyer both as a Barrister (37 years) and as a Solicitor (8 years), having been admitted to practice in 1976. Peter has also been admitted as a practitioner of the High Court of Australia (July 1986). Since being admitted, Peter has obtained a Bachelor of Civil Law (1992) and a Master of Laws (2000) degree both from the University of Queensland and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Law (2000) also from the University of Queensland.

Peter’s main areas of practice are in the fields of Criminal Law, Personal Injuries (particularly in mining claims) and Trusts, Wills and Succession Law (particularly Family Provision claims). Peter has also practiced extensively in property disputes and general commercial disputes. Peter was granted an authority to prosecute criminal matters in the courts in Queensland issued by the then Attorney General which authority has never been revoked. He has conducted well over 1000 criminal trials in his career and has prosecuted many criminal trials. Further, he has conducted well over 1000 civil trials as well and has acted as a mediator and in mediations regularly over the last 20 plus years. Peter truly brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his practice which assists him in achieving the best outcomes for his clients.

Peter has additionally developed expertise in matters relating to Regulatory Compliance and breaches in all fields but particularly mining and aviation.

Memberships:

Outside of work Peter is an enthusiastic follower of both rugby league and rugby union, having played for Wynnum Manly Rugby League Club of which he is still a member. Peter also dabbles in a bit of woodworking and is a member of both the Bayside Woodturners and Woodcrafters Club and the Wynnum Manly Men’s Shed.
