Ray Abrahams has practised law for over 45 years and has vast experience in commercial litigation. His career commenced in South Africa where he completed his Bachelor of Commerce and Law at the University of Witwatersrand (1972-1979) and served his articles of clerkship to a Johannesburg city-based law firm (1975-1977). Ray was admitted to practice as a solicitor of the High Court of South Africa Transvaal, November 1979 and subsequently admitted to practice in all provinces throughout South Africa.
Ray moved to Australia in 1998 where he served his articles of clerkship at Batten Sacks Solicitors on St Kilda Road in Melbourne and completed 2 years at Deakin University (1999-2000) before being admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria on 8 November 2000.
As an experienced commercial litigator, Ray has many notable achievements. Before opening his own practice in 2007, he was a Partner at a Kalus Kenny Lawyers in South Yarra, Melbourne (2002-2007). In 2007 he opened Ray Abrahams & Associates Commercial Lawyers where his firm covers many areas of commercial disputes and owner’s corporation issues including debt recovery, building disputes including domestic building, contractual disputes including partnerships and joint ventures, property litigation, leasing disputes, real estate litigation, leasing disputes, corporations’ law, insolvency, and liquidations in the Supreme and County Courts, Magistrates Court and VCAT.
As a general commercial litigator, Ray has acted for plaintiffs and defendants in all jurisdictions including The Supreme Court of Appeal, The Supreme Court of Victoria, The Federal Court, The County Court, The Magistrate’s Courts, VCAT and the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
Ray was accredited in September (2011-2014) as a Mediator under the National Mediator Accreditation Standards (NMAS).

In his spare time, Ray likes to play golf, enjoy a hike, or walk. Ray is an enthusiastic sports spectator and has a broad interest in jazz, classical and contemporary music.
