Richard holds Bachelor’s degrees in both Law, and Economics (Social Sciences) from University of Sydney, and after completing College of Law (Diploma of Legal Practice) at the University of Technology, Sydney was admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in July 1993. Other post-graduate qualifications include his Certification in Sustainable Finance from the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership, attained in June 2023, and Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance & Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia, attained in March 1999.

With 27 years of first-class experience as a senior lawyer, Richard specialises in providing elegant legal and governance solutions to complex business scenarios, leveraging his world-class in-house corporate, commercial, and investment management experience. As a Consulting Partner at Taylor Rose Australia, Richard offers onsite or online services to clients who need Split General or Special Counsel, strategic or bespoke, legal advice and support across your areas of need that may include: Investment Management & Investment Funds, ESG & Sustainability, Governance Health-check & Enhancement (including Directors Duties), Cross-Border Transactions & Corporate Growth or Restructuring, Special Projects & Strategic Transactions, including Private M&A, Joint Ventures etc.

Previously, Richard spent 19 years at Goldman Sachs, where he built, developed, led, and mentored the Asia Pacific (ex Japan) Legal Department of its Investment Management Division, covering a wide range of fund formation, product development, distribution, and M&A projects across the asset management (and private wealth) industry in Asia Pacific. He also served as a trusted advisor to GSAM’s senior management, and as a board director in Australia, Singapore & Mauritius, and was recognised with the Excellence in Leadership & Management Award 2019 for contributions to Diversity and Inclusion in the global Legal Department.

Richard is passionate about sports and fitness, international travel, and cross-cultural experience. Fun-facts: Richard bought a rice-field to develop a holiday villa in Bali, Indonesia where his 3 children all attended secondary school, and he holds an Advanced Level Rugby Coaching qualification from the International Rugby Board.
